Tours on Monte Rosa

Monte Rosa

The Monte Rosa massif doesn’t owe its name to a romantic evocation of twilight lights as one might imagine but the term “rose” derives, in this case, from a word of the Aosta Valley patois which means ice: therefore frozen mountain.

In fact, the common feature of the entire Monte Rosa massif is the predominantly glacial nature of the terrain. Icy walls and snowy ridges definitely prevail over rocky ones.

Located on the border ridge of the Swiss Valais and the Italian regions of Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta, the Monte Rosa massif comprises 18 peaks above 4000 meters. Many of these peaks can be reached along “easy” route on a gently sloping glacier that make the Monte Rosa area the ideal destination for novice mountaineers looking to perfect their techniques. There are instead steep and exposed demanding itineraries for the most expert and demanding mountaineers who seek the adventure and the essence of the wildest and most sought-after mountaineering

In short, there is really something for all tastes!
