Merbjoch, Ski Touring in Ahrntal Valley!
This year the snow just doesn’t seem to want to be seen here in the Dolomites but the desire is a lot!
After great binge of snow of last week, taken on the other side of the Alps, the time of hunting has finally come back again
The days available, however, were not many, to be honest it was only one… So with only a day available where to go? Research begins and the only places an hour/hour and a half from the Dolomites with snow were the Val Casies and the Ahrntal Valley!
No sooner said than done, I organize the group and off we go! destination? The Ahrntal Valley!
Both me and Sara, Gio and Christian, who accompany me on this adventure, had never been to ski touring in the Ahrntal Valley (I’m a little ashamed of it) but it seems that it was the Italian valley with more snow at the moment and therefore how not to take the opportunity to discover new places, moreover a stone’s throw from home!
After a tip from a friend we decide that our destination today was the Passo Merbe or Merbjoch
“The ascent to Merbjoch (2829m) is a beautiful excursion of 1400 meters of altitude difference in the North-West where the snow, thanks to the exposure, is often soft and beautiful”
This was the phrase read in some guidebook that made us decide definitively for this itinerary and in the end this sentence turned out to be more than appropriate.
After parking in the village of Predoi we went up on the right along a snowy road to a hut with two beautiful Yaks and from here up a beautiful steep forest to another hut at 2006 meters called Merb Alm.
From the Merb Alm hut you can finally see the valley of Merbalm and the Pass of Merbjoch, our destination
From the hut to the pass the itinerary doesn’t seem so much but don’t be fooled, there are still 800 meters left which, due to the few tours made this year, due to the bitter cold, due thousand of excuses, made themselves felt… Fortunately the warmth of the sun from the summit warmed our bones and recharged the batteries for the descent
On the descent there is very little to say, I let the photographs speak which is better andmake the idea more 😉
